Ah, the beach. My fave place to hang out in summer with my kiddos, and my absolute nemesis professionally!

I had a few bad experiences at the beach when I first started this iteration of my photography career in 2015. Issues with wind, and expectations of photoshopped sunset skies created a couple viciously unhappy clients, bruised my heart, and I broke up with the beach professionally forever! or for about 5 years anyway. I know there a million photogs who do beach sessions in Perth, exclusively even, so it felt unnecessary for me to do it too. I will always happily send you somewhere else for something I don’t do (which is now absolutely everything that isn’t family lifestyle photography really!)

But recently, a special long term repeat client asked me for a beach session and I said yes, while quietly freaking out, haha. We did have a failed attempt one windy sunset, but we managed an early morning session just fine in the end and I actually fell in love with this way of doing a beach sesh, with no windy sunset, and this edit I’ve created. In the morning, the sun is in the east, and the ocean in the west giving us beautiful blue skies and aqua water, and very low wind in Perth usually. Perfection!

So fast forward and this beautiful mama was keen for some beach maternity photos of her last babe, and I was stoked to make it happen. As it’s high summer right now, we went at 7am and you can see how super bright it is already! As sunrise becomes later, we can get away with slightly later starts (but really the earlier the better for softer light, same with shooting right at sunset for best light!).  We had such a fun time at Floreat beach with this fam, getting some classic maternity shots but mostly just having a big ol’ play, with a costume change even, and I LOVE how it turned out!

I am dying to do a couple more of these over the summer tbh, so pleeeaasseeee get in touch in you’re keen!

Look forward to capturing your family story soon xxx
