2019 is over and it’s been interesting!

We homeschool our kids and it’s been a really different homeschool year for us. Both kids discovered new passions and motivations, and followed them, leading Chloe into rollerskating, baking and sewing, and JJ into tonnes of Pokemon science classes on Outschool and now Harry Potter and Minecraft as well.

My personal Insta best nine gives a little insight into homeschool life! From top left:

  1. A visit to an amazing art exhibition which was visually stunning.
  2. Chloe sewed her first skirt earlier in the year!
  3. Chloe being a potato… this was genuinely hilarious, lol.
  4. The kids and I at the top of Bluff Knoll near Albany. We conquered our first mountain with our nature group!
  5. We did our first homeschool market! JJ made fresh juices and Chloe made greeting cards. They sold out!
  6. We are all about that beach life, and both kids besties subtly feature in this pic *heart eyes*
  7. We put new shelves in our games room for our board games and apparently this was very popular, haha! We have a couple hundred and it’s our family hobby! *nerd alert*
  8. and 9. The night before each of the kids birthdays! We decorate and wrap with the same reusable fabric items and I always take a pic and insta loved them too lol.

Work wise, about 50% of my work is now repeat clients and that is just amazing to know. Thank you! The photography market is well saturated in Perth and I don’t use business instagram at all, or do any advertising beyond my email list (a paltry 4 emails this year, haha!) plus Facebook posts, so I’m very grateful.

I have no professional goals for 2020 (is that bad?! keeping it real!) but to keep on as I am: doing my best, most personal work for my clients that find me because they love what I do. Can’t ask for more than that! It’s a cliche but it really is true that when you support a micro business, you help pay for little things; in term 1 JJ starts Japanese Jiu Jitsu and Chloe starts Choir!

Each year I do a little family photo shoot in our bedroom (with a remote for the ones I’m in) and here are my faves from this year! As a special surprise Christmas gift for all of our parents, I also captured my brothers and their families and gifted USBs and print packs to all the grandparents. They were thrilled to have new photos to frame especially as all our kids get older. My brothers and I now have 8 kids aged 3 to 12!

I hope you had a wonderful Christmas or Hanukkah, and wish you a very happy new year. Bring on 2020! Thank you again for your continued support.

What to wear is often a tricky subject. I do include a style guide in my pre-shoot paperwork which includes suggestions and examples, and here’s a terrible phone photo of what we wore!

Our bedroom is shades of blue and grey, so I used that as a theme. You can see that everyone’s clothes are the same season (summer) and while there are differences, none are particularly jarring. We could have easily added pops of colour, but given our dark bedroom wall, I decided not too. There are a few small patterns, so it’s not TOO plain or matchy matchy, but nothing really eye catching. Not too much plain black or white either, as it can really look harsh. Another important point is that everyone was comfortable! Hope that’s helpful!

Look forward to capturing your family story soon xxx
