I’ve worked with kids for a long time, since I was a teenager, throughout my Early Childhood degree then 14 years of childcare, nannying and teaching. I’ve photographed them that long, too, and I love them. So. Much. They’re funny, wise, honest and super cool humans. They also keep it really really real, and I just keep snapping away, no matter what. I could fill a whole blog post with photos of toddlers running away, but that’s probably not that entertaining 😉
Here is a collection, with love, of my favourite #whentoddlersquit moments.
Let’s start at the beginning with the first image and adorable kid that inspired the #whentoddlersquit thing. This is Edryd, who I’ve captured many times, maybe 5? (repeat clients are the BEST). This was a warm, humid spring day, with his grandparents, and he was NOT in the mood. He had shoe issues, which I get, cos I had them on my wedding day and I’m pretty sure I have a photo like this, lol! Then we tried to get a family portrait but he wasn’t having it! We all cracked up laughing at his on-the-ground antics. Cutest. Boy. We wrapped up soon after.
Edryd’s little brother, Finn, who’s not even a toddler but this face was too great not too include. Honestly one of my favourite images. Could be the greatest ever meme, amirite?!
My own daughter, Chloe, knows her own mind and direction and is a strong little woman AND has an amazing diva face. She’s in that header image above, which doubles as my social media profile image as well. I think she’s pretty cute I guess, lol! But here she is before her 4th birthday party, and at the end of her party, with the most gorgeous sunset. Best. Face.
My favourite most recent toddler quitting moment is Hugo, at his almost-2nd-birthday family session. Oh my gosh. We laughed. So Much. He’s brilliant! I love his big sister Violet’s reaction too. So much loling!
Side note: see all that gorgeous knitwear they’re wearing? Ali makes it ALL and designs a lot of it, and the hat Chloe is wearing in her photos too. Find her and her patterns at Boris & Stasha on Etsy, Ravelry, Facebook and Instagram.
At a recent 20 week pregnancy checkup at home, big brother Henry decided that was quite enough, and pulled Mum’s top down. Love your work, Henry!
At her first birthday party, Georgia was most unimpressed she wasn’t allowed to wave the cake knife around. Meanest. Mum. Ever.
Oh my gosh, Banjo. I love you. His mum and sister are so beautiful and elegant and he was just way too interested in playing with the plants. SO CUTE.
When that brotherly love goes way too far! This guy threw himself back on the grass while holding his baby brother and thought it was hilarious! It was, to be honest!
Here’s a few others. Stay cool, toddlers. Don’t change; you’re awesome as you are!
No toddlers were harmed in the making of these images.
